take me home

"4/5 - The Redlands Palomino Company prove you don’t have to be American to do good country rock. At its heart is husband- and-wife team Alex and Hannah Elton-Wall, who write the songs and sing with gritty and pure voices respectively. They don’t hide their influences (Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, Jayhawks and Cowboy Junkies) but they do put them to good use. They turn in toe-tapping rockers (She Is Yours) and heart- tugging ballads (Harbour Lights), which although using well-worn templates, side step cliché. A fine album"

THE SUN

"He sounds like Jeff Tweedy and she sounds like Emmylou Harris"

ROB HUGHES, UNCUT MAGAZINE

"The Redlands Palomino Company are one of the best British alternative country acts on the circuit...a very complete album, with not a single bad track"

COUNTRY MUSIC AND MORE

"Undisputed champions of UK alt-country"

NOTTINGHAM METRO

"4.5/5 - This is top-notch americana with an English accent"

COUNTRY MUSIC PEOPLE

"A sensational band whose music you just won't be able to get out of your head for a very long time"

NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST

"These London-based alt-country rockers do a cracking job of mocking-up the sound palette of classic Americana without feeling obliged to pretend they actually are Americans. Take Me Home strives for the spirit of early Wilco or even the Flying Burrito Brothers, as on ‘Burning It Down’ and She Is Yours’, both of which feature some commendably authentic lapsteel fills. Opener, ‘Wasted On You’ sounds like Grand Prix-Era Teenage Fanclub, kicking the album off with some seriously bright, hook-laden pop, a summery rush that extends to ‘Coastline’, which approximates the twin guitar riffing of The Byrds to great effect. The unashamedly more-is-more string arrangements of the title track steal the show however, with vocalist Hannah Eton-Wall’s implausibly sweet voice more than a match for the torrent of instrumental chaos around her."

BOOMKAT.COM

"4/5 -The Redlands Palomino Company have once again triumphed with spectacular form, vision and most importantly fantastic songs. A fantastic effort and an honour to listen to.

GIGWISE

"sublime male/female harmonies in the Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris tradition, with ringing guitars, swooning pedal steel and a gritty dose of Stonesy boogie"

SOUTH WALES ARGUS

"Listening to the 12 string jangles of the cheating on a relationship 'Wasted On You' and the childhood reflecting 'Coastline', it's not too difficult to discern influences that embrace Gram and Emmylou, The Jayhawks, The Byrds, Burritos and Ryan Adams...the highlights never end, chugging along for 'Please Come Running', circling the honky tonk with 'Burning It Down' and kicking over the empty bottles with the Gram meets Merle 'Friends In The Dark'...these Palominos can come and ride my range anytime"

NETRHYTHMS

"The UK’s best West Coast band of 2007"

ILPOPOLODELBLUES (ITALY)

"Gram Parsons was always one to encourage the notion that country was more about a state of mind than anything to do with geography, and had the poor chap not smacked himself into oblivion decades ago he would no doubt approve of RPC’s existence"

WESTERN MAIL

"What makes country music so special? The ability to convey heartbreak, rejection and depression better than any other music? Well, I guess the blues might do the trick just as well. So isn’t alt-country, a rocked-up version of country-blues after all? And hasn’t the modern alt-country template already been well-developed by the likes of the Jayhawks, Wilco and Son Volt (built on the foundations of Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, Gene Clark and Chris Hillman)? So what can the London-based Redlands Palomino Company bring to the table? For one, two fine vocalists in the husband-wife team of Hannah and Alex Elton-Wall. For another, genuinely enjoyable songs with feet firmly planted in the past and the present. In the case of the former, some of the vocal interplay is reminiscent of the classic Gram Parsons-Emmylou Harris team-ups on the two Parsons albums. There is intrinsic beauty in the harmony of the choruses of “Coastline” and “Please Come Running” for example. In the case of the latter, tracks like “Burning It Down”, “She Is Yours”, “Wasted On You” and the title track provide the wistful power and melancholic charm that the best of alt-country always delivers. Faithful to the country-folk tradition and exploiting rock’s sensibilities to the hilt, Take Me Home reminds us all why alt-country will continue to thrive in decades to come"

Country Music People

"Old fashioned country lashed with pedal steels, harmonicas, fiddles and banjos from this skillful London 5 piece"

"Quality first LP from Britains finest country rockers. They have, in Alex and Hannah Elton-Wall, a song-writing team which conspires to reveal a great deal about the shambolic beauty of life. I cant think of another band in England today that sound like them or sound as good as them. Perhaps 'by the time...' represents the coming of age of British country rock"

"Solid, down-home American music using time-tested stuff: pedal steel guitar, harmonica, aching boy-girl harmoniesthey practically stink of day-old whiskey, rusting pickup trucks, battered denim jackets and roadside beer cans"

"You've only got to listen to the opening thirty seconds of this superb album to realise that something wonderful is going on...singer Hannah Elton-Wall's clear, melancholy-ridden voice takes you on a journey that will break your heart. No messing about - buy this album"
